Case of the Mondays!

Ah yes today there was yet again another tube strike in London. Lucky for me, I only had one class later in the afternoon so this morning I was able to leisurely watch last night's episode of Dexter, laundry, etc before class.

Normally I have loads of things to post from the past weekend, but this time I'm lacking on pictures because, during our fieldtrip on Friday, it we got caught in such a bad storm!

Luckily we were able to tour some things that were indoors, including The Royal Pavilion. It was strange and amazing to see a building so inspired from Asian and Indian architectures. It was used by King George IV and practically every room was inspired by Asian cultures. Staircase railings were carved to look like bamboo leaves and shoots, chandeliers had dragon statues wrapping around the tops, and couches were shaped to look like little gondolas! (Everything on the inside is authentic, so unfortunately we weren't allowed to take pictures to preserve the quality of the textiles).

Brighton is right next to the English Channel, which I think made the storm 100x worse than if we had been further inland. Lots of rain &heavy wind made me sad! (obviously haha)

By nighttime though, the day got a lot better when my roommate invited me to go see the band, MONA, from Nashville! I definitely suggest checking out their music because I think they are going to go very, very far in their career! Personally, I thought that their live performance sounded like a mixture of Maroon 5 & Kings of Leon.

This upcoming Friday I am going to Dover Castle which sits next to white cliffs and has secret tunnels used in the world wars!

I'm hoping to get creative and update this throughout the week? Or would my lovely followers prefer this be strictly about London?

  2. Luckily (kind of?) the strikes are usually somewhat planned, if that makes sense haha

So last Wednesday-ish everyone knew that the strike would be sunday&monday and could plan accordingly.
I think there is at least another one in November though blah!

Still a pain in the butt though!

Kind of weird that a strike would be planned; kind of defeats the purpose of going on strike eh?

ps when/how long will you be in London? You will definitely love it.

  3. Well that's good that they're planned so you can work your schedule around that, but yes, planning them does seem to defeat the purpose of having a strike in the first place.

I believe the internship is 6-8 weeks and I'd probably stay another week (I hope!) so my mom can fly to London and we can do all of the tourist-y things that she didn't do last time she was in London 30 years ago.

I wish the internship was longer. I know it'll go by so fast and I won't want to leave! Though, it might be good that it's 8 weeks may-july seeing as I'd go summer of 2012 (so far away! :[) because London is holding the 2012 summer olympics so I'd imagine the city would be crazy when that happens, so it's probably a good thing I'm planning on going during the first summer session.

I'm already planning a list of things to do while there! I think it'll take 2 years to complete it seeing as there is so much to do there haha

  4. being here during the olympics would be amazing! We went to a few places where some of the events would be held and some areas are being built outside the city.

Even though it's a year and a half away, you can just tell that everyone here is so excited about it!

6-8 weeks will FLY BY. especially since you're interning! I think i've been here for 6 weeks? And it feels like yesterday I was just getting on the plane to come here.
