hot hot hot

weekend recap!
I was so happy that my mom decided to take a trip down & hangout with me for the weekend!
Her bus ran pretty late (shocker right?) so she didn't end up getting in until late Friday. We pretty much only had time to grab a quick bite to eat before calling it a night.

Her hotel was right in the heart of Herald Square where the HUGE flagship Macy's is, so Saturday morning we headed there in search of a dress for a wedding she's going to in a few weeks.
I thought I was indecisive about trying on & buying clothes but now I know where I inherited the trait from. We got to Macys right as they opened the doors at 10am and stayed until almost 1!
But she came out of it with a beautiful teal dress from Elie Tahari.

After that we met up with one of her old students for brunch at Calle Ocho.

The inside was gorgeous and it was packed! We soon found out it's known for having a ' free unlimited sangria bar' during brunch and that was why it was practically impossible to get a table. I got a yummy chicken quesadilla but afterwards we decided we needed to get cupcakes from crumbs since it was right around the corner!

My mom has only been to the city a few times so we did all the tourist-y things including walking down 5th ave and gawking at all the designer stores (we even went in Tiffanys & pretended to pick out an engagement ring hah!)

She left early Sunday morning but I'm really happy I'll be going home for the 4th.
By the time Thursdays roll around I end up being really homesick and I'm dreading how homesick I'm going to be in London.

a much needed update

I really need to get better about updating this! I haven't posted anything in almost 2 weeks - and it's weird to think that this summer is flying by.

This past week was really exciting at my internship, for me at least!
I wanted to show my supervisor that I was capable of handling more responsibility so during some downtime I wrote some press releases and pitch letters on my own and asked her if she would give me some advice/feedback on them. Turns out she's going to test my work out and let me pitch some upcoming shows to editors & journalists!
If everything goes as planned, I'll get this band some exposure and I'll be really happy =D

Kaelah and I walked all around this past Friday night and found great buys in Forever 21! (I miss my store a lot but it definitely doesn't compare to the ones here)
I got a cute tunic top that was black & ruffled on the top and floral on the bottom. It was misplaced and mismarked so I got it for only $10! yeah!

Afterwards we walked around St. Marks and found an amazing tai restaurant. I had never really tried tai food before but I can definitely say now that I am a big, big fan.

Also! I was able to (finally) order my first drink as a 21year old! And ironically our waitress didn't check my ID anyways psh

I ordered the pad tai and the portion was enormous - so enormous that I asked for a to-go box & I actually just finished the rest of it for lunch haha

This week is supposed to be pretty hot in NYC and I think is pushing 90 today so I haven't quite decided if I want to venture outside.

p.s Happy Fathers Day my my dad and all the fathers out there!
I know mine means the world to me and I hope he's having a good time with my brother and sister today.

i am a noob.

Yes, I have come to the conclusion that my title is "queen noob of new york city".
Anything and everything is so new & exciting to me!

After I wokeup, got dressed, etc this morning, my friend texted me and asked me to lunch.
Luckily he knows & understands how much of a city newbie I am and came near me instead of having me venturing to him (phew!)
He suggested we check out "shake shack" which is conveniently in madison square park (only about 3 blocks from me!)
I had never heard of it before but apparently it's really well known because we waited in line for almost 45 minutes to order! It's just burgers, hot dogs, fries, shakes, etc but it really was worth the wait.

On a whim we decided to go to the empire state building since neither of us had been there before and it was only a few blocks away.

He left after we were done being tourist-y and I went on a mini shopping spree!
I used hopstop to text some directions to myself but apparently I still couldn't figure them out.
It took me almost an hour to walk from the empire state building to the east village but I was determined to find buffalo exchange!

I got pretty bummed out that almost nothing fit me =[ but I guess I'm going to channel the disappointment into motivation to lose some more weight.
I did find a cute owl tank though! (and lord knows I love owls).

Because I can't go more then a day without being in a forever 21, I hiked to Union Square to see if that store was better than the herald square one and yes!
It was a ZOO. Legitimately a zoo but it was a lot bigger than the one I went to yesterday and I managed to find two lace tops and can I just say that I LOVE that there is no sales tax on clothes here? It's almost as if I still get my employee discount.

After walking what feels like 984732954353 miles, I am pooped.

my first cab experience!

Okay, so I understand this isn't exciting for most people (my supervisors thought I was crazy for being so excited) but yes, I had to hail my first cab today! (twice!)

One of the owners forgot something at the office when she left and I was the only intern there at the time and got the task of bringing it to her apartment.

let me tell you, hailing a cab is not an easy feat!

It was after 6 when I had to run the errand so the streets were busy and a ton drove by me. I ended up walking almost halfway to the destination before I finally caught one.

...now if I could just gather up some courage and ride the subway, I'll be even more proud of myself =D

home& back again!

I wasn't planning on going home this past weekend but when I found out that I had yesterday off from interning, I booked a bus ticket home instantly!
I've only been in new york for about a week but it feels like forever (in a good way!)

For some strange reason, the bus just did not want me to get home!
I got to Port Authority around 3:30 and there was already a line for the 5pm bus, and it grew and grew within the hour. They told us that they were splitting the group into 2 buses because there were so many people!
So I get on the bus that was going to go directly to Syracuse without stopping and after getting stuck in massive traffic, it broke down somewhere in northern pennsylvania.

I had been listening to my ipod the whole time so I didn't realize that, during the ride, some passengers had been heckling the driver and telling him he was falling asleep and driving poorly.

Anywho, I guess this caused him to pull off at a random exit which caused the bus to stall and BOOM we were stranded.

The driver said he was calling for another bus but after 3 hours, it didn't look good.

I have the best momma in the whole world because she and my sister drove to get me (we were stuck about an hour from Syracuse).

All in all, the trip home was worth it.
I had a big lunch at my grandma's house on sunday (like usual) and hung out with my family.

and now back to work for me!
